Interference

Memorial Day was finally here. The unofficial start of summer always puts a smile on my face and this one would be no exception. Chloe and Greg were having a cookout. This was especially great since they just lived around the corner and Emilio and I could just walk there.

I was bringing my world-famous brownies although I knew most of the girls there wouldn't even touch them for fear of gaining weight. I was ready for an evening of food, fun and, eventually, fireworks, though these wouldn't be the normal kind that light up the sky.

Just as Memorial Day melts away the memories of cold winter nights and dewey spring mornings, leading to new beginnings and possibilities, this particular day would mark the beginning of a whole new world for Chloe.
